How to buy and activate a Nomad travel eSIM on the official site
Pick a country plan on Nomad’s site or app, pay, install the QR once, then roam onto the local network.
You want local data without swapping a plastic SIM. Use Nomad at nomadesim.com or the official app: pick a destination plan, pay yourself, install from the official QR.
The query is how to buy and activate a Nomad travel eSIM. Steps follow Nomad Help When Should I Activate my Nomad eSIM? and How to find the QR code for my eSIM? Confirm the device supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked, then pay with your own card or PayPal. Skip resold install codes and “we activate it for you” pages.
Check the phone first
The device must take an eSIM
iPhone, Pixel, and recent Samsung phones show Add eSIM / Add cellular plan in Settings. If the phone is carrier-locked, ask that carrier to unlock it first.
Country plan vs regional pack
One country → that country plan. Several countries → a regional or global pack. Read data, days, and radio notes on the plan page; the checkout price is the one that counts.
Installed is not always started
Help suggests installing before the flight and turning the line on at the destination. Most plans activate when they join the local network. Unused eSIMs typically auto-start around day 60 (Plum and similar exceptions follow the order text).
Buy, install, and activate
After checkout you get an install email. The QR is also on the website Manage page or in the app under My eSIM. Installation needs a network, so home Wi-Fi is calmer.

1
Open the official site or app
On a computer go to
https://www.nomadesim.com, or install Nomad from the App Store / Google Play. Sign in or create an account at checkout. Skip unofficial mirror shops. -
2
Pick the destination plan and pay
Search the country or region, compare data and validity, then Checkout. Use your own credit card, debit card, or PayPal. Tick compatibility and the terms, then Complete Purchase.
-
3
Install from the official QR
Open the confirmation email or Manage / My eSIM. iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM, scan the QR. Pixel: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Download a SIM. Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add mobile plan. Install the same eSIM once.
-
4
Turn the line on at the destination
Set the Nomad line as cellular data, enable Data Roaming, restart if asked. Most plans then join the local network and start the validity clock. You generally cannot “pre-activate” while still at home.

Some plans need Activate Now
If the install note says manual activation, tap Activate Now on the plan page in the site or app. Follow that plan’s email, not a third-party “instant unlock” claim.
| Stage | What Nomad writes | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Before buy | Phone must support eSIM and be unlocked | Check Settings + carrier unlock |
| Install | QR in email or Manage / app | Install on Wi-Fi before you fly; scan once |
| Activate | Connect at destination with Data Roaming on | Read the plan; some need Activate Now |
After you have data
Nomad notifies you when data is low or the plan is ending. Some plans sell an add-on on the same eSIM, so you do not scan a second profile. A US SMS number is a different product — see the on-site Google Voice guide. Do not treat a data eSIM as a bank OTP line.

Keep the QR and install instructions on Nomad’s site, confirmation email, and official app. Do not send the install code to a reseller or a “we activate it for you” page.
What this has to do with a browser room
The eSIM is road data, not a shared canvas. Once you are online, short alignment is still open a browser and share one page. Enter a room via create and join a space. On a phone, read mobile browser notes. For a US SMS line see get a Google Voice number. To open a room now, go to the rtcroom home page.
Still wondering?
Must I buy before I fly?
You can buy after you land, but install needs a network. Help says you can purchase and activate at the destination. The calmer path is install on home Wi-Fi, then only enable roaming on arrival.
It is installed but there is no data?
Confirm the line is on, selected for cellular data, Data Roaming is on, and you are in a covered country. If it still fails, use the install email or Nomad support. Do not reinstall the same profile.
I cannot find the QR email?
Check spam for subjects like “Here is how you access your Nomad plan!” or “Nomad Plan Installation Guide.” Or open the eSIM under Manage / My eSIM on the site or app.
Can this eSIM receive SMS codes?
Travel plans are sold as data. Voice or SMS, if any, is listed on that plan page; most country packs are data-only. Do not count on a data eSIM for bank OTPs.
