You can buy early. Country plans usually wait until you attach in coverage. Install needs a network, so home Wi-Fi before departure is the safer path; on arrival you only enable roaming.

Installed but no data?

Confirm the line is on, selected for cellular data, roaming enabled, APN is gigsky, and you are in coverage. Turn off Allow Cellular Data Switching. If it still fails, use GigSky support — do not reinstall the same profile.

Where is the QR after a web purchase?

Open the install link in the purchase email. That page has the QR, SM-DP+ address, and Activation Code. You can also continue the order in the official app.

Can this line receive SMS?

Most travel plans are data only. The iPhone setup wizard even asks you to pick Data Only. Do not rely on a data eSIM for bank codes.
